Case of the Mondays...

Hello All! I have to apologize for not getting a post up last Friday. I will try to get back into the SoM groove by the end of the week. As you might suspect we are currently still on break here at UW-Madison, at least technically speaking. Functionally many if not most graduate students have already been back for weeks trying their best to get a head start on the semester yet to get underway. Curiously the first two weeks of the year saw some very warm weather here, with temperatures around 10C (50+F) at times. More recently we have gotten some snow, keeping the ice skaters/fishermen and nordic skiers happy.

David and I are often trying to keep Claudio happy, and at the end of the day this means that we need to be working on papers. For the last couple of months, however, David and Claudio have been working very hard on a National Science Foundation grant pre-proposal. Things at the primary federal funding agency for the type of science that we do are in flux and there is a new format this year that requires a very short preproposal to be submitted to cull the truly unfundable grants on the front end of the process. This grant is focused on future directions for our work in Iceland, and represents a synthesis of knowledge that we have gathered over the last four years or so. Let us hope it does well in review!

Bless,

Jamin
